The resurgence of ’90s trends continues for Spring 2018 with another polarizing look set to make a major return: cargo pants.

Although the thought of suiting up in the voluminous silhouette, (remember JNCO jeans?), still sends shivers down our spines, back in the day it was one of the coolest trends around, with everyone from TLC to Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani rocking larger-than-life pockets on their hips, all while taking the silhouette from edgy to sexy and even punk. The style was further elevated by Balenciaga who sent a parade of the pants down the catwalk during their 2002 runway show…and although we’re completely content leaving the silhouette in the past, stylish street-style stars and designers seem to disagree.

Gigi Hadid stepped out during Paris Fashion Week and turned the sidewalk into her personal runway with her effortless model-off-duty look as she sported a high-waisted, flared pair of Nina Ricci cargo pants with a striped turtleneck and army green jacket that featured plaid paneling–and we have to admit, her polished, sleek take on the once cringe-worthy trend definitely had us way more open to revisiting the style.

While Hadid opted for a sophisticated take on the trend, Kim Kardashian West showed off a look that echoed the cargo pants of the past as she rocked Yeezy Season 7 during a trip to Tokyo with her sisters, where she was photographed in a voluminous pair of high-waisted, olive green flared pants, which she paired with a belt bag and a hot pink top.

Kim wasn’t the only family member to revive the trend as her older sis, Kourtney, opted for a seriously wide-leg pair that would’ve been perfect for a ’90s rave. She elevated the silhouette by sticking to a monochromatic color palette, pairing the white pants with a form-fitting, tucked-in top.

If you’re bold enough to suit up in the wide-leg silhouette, it’s imperative to opt for a more structured top ‘ala Kourtney–it’s all about playing with proportions and balancing out the statement pants.

Think the trend is strictly reserved for the most stylish street-style stars and celebs? Guess again. After a slew of designers from the likes of Alexander Wang, (who sent an olive green pair down his Brooklyn catwalk on model Candice Swanepoel, above), and Emporio Armani incorporated the trend in their Spring 2018 shows back in September, contemporary brands quickly followed suit and now cargo pants are practically everywhere we turn for spring–but thankfully sleek, updated silhouettes make the trend way more wearable this time around. If you’re totally against cargo pants, you may be in luck–while the silhouette rules for spring, Fall 2018 will usher in a major ’80s resurgence, complete with big hair and shoulder pads.
