Could There Be a ‘Seinfeld’ Reunion? Jerry Seinfeld Addresses the Rumors

Seinfeld was, famously, a show about nothing, and according to creator Jerry Seinfeld, rumors of a reboot are just that. A whole lot of nothing.

“Why?” Seinfeld said in response to Entertainment Weekly reporter Nischelle Turner’s assertion that perhaps it’s time to bring back the ’90s primetime staple. “Why not?” she responded. “We love the show.”

“Yeah,” Seinfeld replied, “and maybe it’s nice that you continue to love it instead of us tampering with something that went pretty well.”

And there you have it, folks. No reunion for you! While everyone from David Lynch to the Will and Grace cast is down to cash in on our collective nostalgia for a simpler time, Seinfeld is making the wise decision not to mess with sitcom perfection. His fictional counterpart George Costanza, always a fan of going out on a high note, would surely be proud.

But if there’s a misanthrope-shaped void in your life, take solace in the fact that Curb Your Enthusiasm, the similarly hilarious show starring Seinfeld co-creator (and noted George inspiration) Larry David, will make its triumphant return to HBO on October 1 following a 6-year hiatus. Seinfeld’s new comedy special, Jerry Before Seinfeld, is also currently streaming on Netflix.
