There’s Something Familiar About This Dress We Spotted at the Royal Wedding

As we reported on this very site just a few weeks ago, the costumes in Lifetime's "Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance" were "as authentic as possible" to Meghan Markle's real-life wardrobe. "I felt like such a stalker designing this show," said the film's costume designer, Claudia Da Ponte in a recent interview with Fashionista's Fawnia Soo Hoo. And apparently, all that research paid off, with an unexpected, real-life sartorial overlap.

As the festivities surrounding Saturday's royal nuptials unfolded, there was something familiar and uncanny about one look spotted on a wedding guest. Had we seen this long-sleeve, peacock-printed gown before? Why yes, we sure had.

As discovered by keen-eyed Twitter user, Teen Vogue Social Media Manager Michaela O'Shaughnessy at @lifeofaladybear, there's a pretty simple reason why this look gave us fashion déjà vu: It was featured in said movie on fictional-Markle, who wore it during the scene when she met the faux-Queen:

That would, on its own, be a fairly awkward state of affairs. But wait, that's not all the awkwardness this look had in store! To make matters worse, the dress proved to be quite, er, popular for the occasion: At least two different attendees both chose to wear it, bringing second-hand outfit anxiety to one and all.

But, hey, this stuff happens. Apparently no one set up a Facebook group for royal wedding attendees to make sure they didn't have overlapping dresses, like high school kids so considerately do for prom. And if nothing else, it gave the Twitter-verse something to focus on other than whether Harry would or would not choose to shave for the occasion.
